Authorised RMS Inspection Station (HVAIS, ASCIS, AUVIS)
C Our Mechanics can carry out inspections on all heavy vehicles. A heavy vehicle is defined as a motor vehicle or trailer that has a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) greater than 4.5 tonnes. Heavy vehicles require inspections to be registered in NSW and to renew their registration.
Heavy vehicle inspections are required for:
- Establishing registration for vehicles not currently registered in NSW
- Renewing registration
- Adjusting vehicle records
- Clearing Defect Notice
Your certificate of registration will state whether the vehicle requires a HVAIS or HVIS inspection. If the vehicle does not need to be inspected by the RMS, the notice will include the line “HVIS Exempt – HVAIS Insp. Required“.
C Our Mechanics can carry out “brown slips, pink slips and blue slips”. A brown slip is carried out on a heavy vehicle when ‘transferring registration’ from another state, or a vehicle whose registration has expired.
All inspection certificates are lodged electronically online so you can pay for and renew your vehicle registration immediately where required.
Heavy Vehicles Include:
- Heavy vehicles over 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass (GVM)
- Buses 2.5 tonnes tare weight and over
- Licensed tow trucks
- Vehicles fitted with power-operated brakes
- Prime movers

Truck owners should ensure that their heavy vehicle is comprehensively serviced, maintained and roadworthy at all times.
